Alicia Rohlfing, owner of Willow Creek Pet Portraits (willowcreekportraits.com), learned her craft through mentorships, workshops and education through the Professional Photographers of America.
Perhaps more importantly, she’s a lifelong animal lover. Her portraits bring out the personality of her subjects. Rohlfing offers some tips for potential clients.
“Don’t get frustrated when your pet isn’t ‘performing’ or behaving. They can sense it, and the tension can make the session much less enjoyable,” she says.
Rohlfing also reminds pet parents to take your high-energy dog for a good walk before their photo session.

Diane Vallejo
For a painted pet portrait, check out Diane Vallejo’s work on Instagram (@dkvallejoartist). She’s been an artist since her teens and made her first sale at age 19, when she worked in a frame shop and a customer fell in love with her drawing of a coyote.
“Word got out and people were stopping by to commission wildlife and pet portraits,” Vallejo says.
She works from photos her clients supply, and uses acrylic paints on wood panels or canvas, as well as colored pencils on paper.
“I love expressing the unique personality of each companion animal I paint,” she says.
